Raven's Wing

I slashed my sword in a wide arc, cleaving off the monster's reptilian snout. It roared in pain, but lashed out at me with foot-long claws anyway. Its piggy eyes glowed yellow and focused on my chest. War raged about me. Beside me, a girl with lush, mouse-brown hair pointy ears and blue eyes gathered a ball of flickering energy and threw it with deadly precision. Right into a huge bat-like creature with bloody fangs and black eyes.The creature screeched in fury as the lightning-sphere seared its left wing. I turned my attention back to my monster. It was eight feet tall with beady yellow eyes, saber tooth fangs covered in plaque--seriously, brush your teeth sometimes--and dried blood. It had rams horns curling off its human/snake face. The creature's face was roughly human, with green scales and a--fortunately chopped off--snake snout instead of a human nose and mouth. It had the upper half of a lion, with dark red fur and a blood-caked mane. Along with huge cat paws instead of feet and muscular human legs. I stabbed at its furry chest, attempting to land a killing blow, but my sword went awry and the monsters scarlet tail slapped me in the chest, throwing me off balance while a gigantic paw came around and hit me in the head. Hard. I heard the girl scream, "No! Luke you fool!" and then... 

I blacked out.

I woke up in my bed with the sheets soaked in sweat. "Luke, get down here, you're going to be late!" My mom called.

My name is Luke Curnest. My life is hard. Really hard.You see, I'm the underdog. Loser. Whatever. I've never met my dad and my mom is rarely home, and when she is, well... I'm ten--nearly eleven--tall and scrawny with a mop of dirty blond hair and turquoise green eyes. 

I jumped up and got dressed--a green T-shirt and blue jeans. I pounded down the stairs and into the kitchen where my mom, a pudgy, brown-haired lady with a pushed-in face and a brown dress, tossed me a piece of toast and hustled me out the door, shouting: "Don't you DARE get yourself expelled!.'' 

I bounded down the road, slipping in rain puddles and tripping over abandoned twigs and tree branches. I thought about my dream. It was the second time I'd dreamed about the girl, and the third time I'd dreamed about a war. I huffed toward the school building, taking my time and letting my mind wander. I stumbled into the school and went through the day: getting pushed around, being bored etc..

After school I walked home, dragging my feet. I opened the door and tried to sneak in, going quietly up the stairs, hoping my mom wouldn't hear. No such luck. My mom burst around the corner with a duster in her hand, her yellowy eyes glaring at me. "The principle called. You've been expelled, again." She growled. I gritted my teeth, waiting, knowing what would happen. My mom slapped me across the face so hard it left a stinging mark. I'm sure if she'd hit any harder it would've drawn blood. I groaned and she slapped me again, on the other side of my face. She huffed and poked me up the steps using the duster, giving me a few slaps in the back now and then.

IC: Shadow fluffed out her tail and stared at the sky

Shadow flicked her tail in exasperation, bent down and took a bite out of the mouse. She then pushed it towards Fang, meowing. "Happy now?" As if he had just made her eat a bucket full of crow-food

Shadow leaped, trapping the mouse under her dark paws and quickly killing it with a sharp bite to the neck. She dropped it at Fang's paws. "Who's getting you stuff now?" She growled and began stalking away

Shadow grunted and began searching for a mouse

She opened her mouth wide and scented the air. She found a mouse and began to creep up on it.
